From 2002 onward Bert organised wooden boatbuilding, traditional as well as contemporary courses, and teaching hollow spar making, oar making and lofting. He does that in his own workshop in Den Helder as well as on location.
Bert can also build your boat, together in a project or hiring him for just one job on your boat; as well as making parts of your boat such as masts, rudders or lee-boards.
Before this career Bert was a marine engineer for a while and a primary schoolteacher for 24 years. He took the helm of The Boatbuilding School from Kees Prins which started the school in 1996. After the 2008 crisis Bert became a boatbuilding teacher at the HMC-College in Amsterdam, where he tought 18-24 year olds the beautiful craft of Wooden Boatbuilding. Bert has just retired from the college, not from his own school!!
Bert is also the organiser of the annual Dutch Wooden Boat Festival.
