Ben Coombes is a classic wooden boatbuilder by background and training, having studied boatbuilding at the Isle of Wight college and then apprenticed to his grandfather, Alan Coombes. Ben ran his own company, Ben Coombes Small Craft, specialising in the build and restoration of wooden boats under 25ft. He is a specialist in the Bembridge Scow and has also designed his own rowing tender, the Grebe.
Ben is now a senior lecturer at the Isle of Wight College, teaching boatbuilding, carpentry and joinery but does all he can to stay connected to the wooden boat world. He's particularly keen to hear from any wooden boat enthusiasts from the Isle of Wight, especially if they know and love the Bembridge Scow.
